Installing New Software

Getting Started Guide
The package list on the left side of the kpackage window moves to show
you the package name you entered. (See Figure 67.)
FIGURE 67. Searching for packages helps you locate details about software
installed on your OpenLinux system.
In addition to packages, you can search for files within packages. This is very
helpful when you see a file on your OpenLinux system, but you don’t know what
its purpose is. Use the kpackage utility to search for the file, so you can learn
what package the file is part of.
CAUTION: Don’t delete an individual file in OpenLinux
unless you are familiar with the purpose of that file. Instead,
search for the file using kpackage and uninstall the complete
software package if you don’t need it any longer.
To search for a file to determine which package it belongs to:
1.
From the KDE main menu, select COAS|kpackage.
2.
If prompted, enter the root password.
3.
Choose File|Find File.
A search dialog box appears.
4.
Enter the name of the file that you want to search for.
